Marketing Tips for New Entrepreneurs

Marketing your new business and ‘putting yourself out there’ is often what holds budding entrepreneurs back from creating momentum in the online space. Realistically, you will have to get visible and there will be a time, money, and energy investment. However, the reality of what’s necessary vs the build-up in your head  is probably very different.

Today I’m going to share some foundational marketing tips for your new business so that you can make a more informed decision on your marketing strategy, how to invest your time and money, and feel inspired to know that you have a lot of options to market your business. I also have a powerful marketing secret to share so keep reading!

Email Marketing

What I love about email marketing is that you already know how to do this! You likely send emails regularly and this is an easy and effective way to communicate with your audience. You get to share your zone of genius, your offers, and your personal touch without the worry of algorithms, graphics, or tech. Email continues to be one of the best opportunities for growing your business.

This is the one thing that I advocate for with every client as a part of their strategy. So if you’re already sending emails, you have one marketing skill already under your belt!

Branding and Websites

You’ve probably heard and may assume that every business needs a website. In my experience, you DO NOT necessarily need a website to launch or market your business. For new coaches and consultants, unless your business is branding, graphic design, website related, or a few other exceptions, I don’t recommend spending a lot of time on your brand or building a website in your first 6 months.

Your Brand

When you are coming out of corporate it’s going to take a process of unlearning and rediscovering yourself as an entrepreneur. There are no rules. You get to dress how you want and share your voice in your unique way. That can be a little jarring when you’ve been working for years under a set of implied rules for how you are supposed to show up.

Finding your entrepreneurial voice is likely not going to be an overnight thing. Branding is important for recognition, consistency, and telling the story you want people to hear AND I think you should give yourself the gift of time to discover what that will be for your business.

Instead of spending hours creating your brand for your new business, keep it simple knowing that you will come back and revisit this.

Website Alternatives

Building a website before you’re clear on your brand and you’re locked into your offer may require you to invest more time and money to update it once you’ve settled into your business and your brand voice.

You can start selling your offer with a simple landing page (a one-page website) or a well-designed PDF. With easy-to-use templates available to market your offer, you can launch your business without the stress or investment of a website. If you’re not sure if your business model will require a website, schedule a discovery call and let’s chat about what your business needs to get started.

Social Media Marketing

If social media feels like a barrier to launching your business, take heart in knowing that you do not have to dance, make videos, or share personal photos if you don’t want to.

There are lots of opportunities to market your business. Creating a plan that leverages your strengths and creativity is part of the fun of online marketing. This is also why ‘business in a box’ solutions aren’t effective. You need a personalized solution that you can stick to and will connect with your audience.

Social media marketing can happen through a variety of platforms that allow you  to connect with your ideal clients in your unique way.

  • Instagram is great for short form short-form content, creative images and videos

  • Facebook continues to have the largest audience reach with a mix of content options, images and video

  • TikTok can bring your short form video skills to life

  • YouTube has a variety of video options with shorts and long-form content

  • Podcasts brings the power of your voice to a global stage

  • Blogging gives you a platform to express your thought leadership in your unique writing style

  • Social Audio opens up a world of conversation that can build immediate connection

  • Online Events & Workshops brings your audience to you so that you can showcase your talents in real-time with immediate impact

  • Online Ads gives you a paid for backseat to building your audience

And there’s even more opportunity out there but hopefully this gives you some ideas to consider as a starting point! You have options and discovering your unique path is how you’ll make marketing work for your new business.

The key to social media marketing is the strategy for the platform you’ve chosen to best connect with your ideal audience. All platforms offer a great opportunity to showcase your expertise so get excited to share your voice in a powerful way that is aligned for YOU!
